Gah. This happens every fall-to-winter transition. Right after the first snowfall, everyone around here drives as if it's the first time they've ever seen snow before.
I live in the fucking Buffalo area for crying out loud.

I live in Amherst currently - one of, if not the best area in all of WNY. They used to be number 1 rated as like the safest community in the whole country a while back.
So no, I don't live in downtown buffalo, but whenever I abbreviate Western New York to WNY, most people don't know where I'm talking about.

Just yesterday I saw two separate accidents on arrow straight stretches of the Florida Turnpike where the driver had somehow managed to spin off the road in only a light rain.
As you said, it's funny because it is true.

I myself have never driven in snow but if rain makes people stupid then I can only imagine what even the teensiest amount of powder on the ground will do.

Oh. I just meant it is warmer there in the winter than here. Here it is quite cold, the avg Jan temp is only 13.

This last winter, after the first snowfall (and all of the snow on the roads had already completely melted and all that was left was just a light dusting on the grass) I was stuck behind a fucking crossover with AWD (I could tell it had AWD because of the badge of course) going 35mph on an on-ramp. I nearly got clipped trying to accelerate past her by a driver who was clearly confused as to why I would need to continue to accelerate in the merging lane from 30mph.
I wanted to run that lady off the road.

Ahh, thought you meant the general area. Normally it's not incredibly bad, but this past winter was probably the worst I've ever experienced. Nearly every morning for like 2 months the temperate was somewhere below -5F. And that's before the wind chill was taken into account.

This past winter nearly killed me man. February is always the hardest month, because it's cold and dark still...and has been like that since November.

Yep. Every goddamn time it rains - at least 90 percent of the driving skills in the DMV are water soluble. And snow is even worse.

most people around here seem to be able to deal with rain fairly well, but snow on the other hand... Holy jumping shit balls, you live in Canada you twat, its not like you haven't seen it before. Also, "All Seasons" are not good enough for Canadian winters usually. Some people are competent enough to control a car with all seasons in with ter but lots of people aren't. Snow tires are mandatory in Quebec after a certain date, early November if I remember correctly, and that should be the case in the rest of Canada. And another thing. All wheel drive doesn't make you invincible! You still need to slow down and drive carefully. Last winter in the first snow, I saw 5 cars off the shoulder, one of them fairly serious. Three of the cars were 4wd or AWD.
Whew. OK, rant over.

I know what you're saying. It is the same way here in Minnesota. I mean winter only lasts fro November to mid April.

I can understand the frustration even though I've never driven in snow.

there are some people I can't even fathom how they got their licence, and I just got my full licence a week ago.

I guess I'm one of the competent drivers. I use all seasons, drive a RWD Silverado, and had no weight in the bed. MN winters don't cause me trouble, other drivers though ...

I'm originally from Minnesota, south western middle of nowhere. Me and my wife went back there in January a few years ago and she refuses to go back in the winter now. It didn't get above 0 the whole time we were there and the was a couple feet of snow on the ground. A little worse than usual, but fairly standard.

This is portland. Even though it rains here 9 months of the year. Then sunshine does the same thing. Oh, and the whole city shuts down when it snows. So I found a house 2 miles from where I work, more than half of my commute is through residential streets.

my dad survied for almost 20 years with a '90 F-150 2wd, put a few bags of sand in the box so he could put it down in case he got stuck, got some good snows, and drove the conditions. Not a single accident the entire time he owned the truck.

Rain? No problem, I just slow way down and put on my hazards.
